My first thought was that this was a US company sprouting American statistics, but further investigation revealed that it was 500 Australians who were surveyed. I’m still unsure about the validity of the information particularly that 72% of consumers would purchase on price rather than brand (4%) “Price, not surprisingly, continues to be the biggest factor for car buyers when considering a purchase, according to Sparc Media’s recent Automotive Consumer Insights survey.

If price was such a big consideration, then Hyundai and Kia would be on top of the sales ladder, not Toyota followed by Mazda. Both of these brands would undoubtedly be below the Korean twins. It also found that 74% of buyers will kick off the purchase process online; and that brand loyalty doesn’t matter to the 72% of people who are happy to switch. Motivation wasn’t quite as planet-friendly as many would imagine – 32% only look for a car when they decide they need a better one, but just 1% want to drive something with better environmental credentials.
When researching vehicles online, the split between those who use search engines and those who simply go to brand sites was almost identical, at 31% and 30% respectively. The most important considerations when it comes to actually making the buying decision are price (72%), safety and reliability (29%) followed by running costs (11%). The least important were brand (4%) and in-car technology”
